Company History – Salter Trailways

"Without passion there might be no errors, but without passion there would certainly be no history." - C. V. Wedgwood

We started with humble beginnings with our first principal place of business when main streets were unpaved including in downtown Jonesboro, Louisiana in 1916 at E.E. Harlan’s garage as a Ford Authorized Sales and Service business.

By 1919, our company was born and we were in the transportation business where our first mode of transportation were stretch cars and vehicle transportation where we provided shuttle transportation locally and eventually from town-to-town on a local “line run”.

We incorporated our company in May 1930, three years after receiving our public license to operate and six years later, we purchased our first bus.

Eventually, we became known as Salter Bus Lines, Inc. and for 63 years, we re-shifted our focus from providing daily, intercity, fixed-route line run services and to charter bus services for school, church groups, active military and veterans, along with other social and local groups.

Since the beginning of our humble operations, we have been owned and operated by one family and 41 years ago, we moved a few blocks from downtown Jonesboro to our current location at 212 Hudson Avenue in Jonesboro.
